The Berlin International Film Festival known as the Berlinale, is one of the world’s leading film festivals and most reputable media events. It is held in Berlin, Germany. It was founded in West Berlin in 1951 on the initiative of U.S. Film officer Oscar Martay. This is an annual since 1978. it is Berlinale is considered the largest publicly attended film festival worldwide based on actual attendance rates. More of 400 films are shown in several sections, representing a comprehensive array of the cinematic world.
The European Film Market (EFM), a film trade fair held simultaneously to the Berlinale, is a major industry meeting for the international film circuit once a year. The trade fair serves distributors, film buyers, producers, financiers and co-production agents. The Berlinale Talent Campus is a campus where young filmmakers have the opportunity to follow lectures and workshops, and it is considered to be a forum for upcoming artists.
The festival is composed of seven different film sections. Films are chosen in each category by a section director under the advice of a committee of film experts. Categories include: competition, panorama, forum, generation, Perspektive Deutsches Kino, Berlinale shorts and retrospective.
The Golden and Silver Berlin Bear are the honorary awards of this festival.
